This RC car was a small personal project in Spring 2019. After learning a variety of material in many of my classes, I wanted a project to apply them all together. In order to make this project more involved, I set the constraint of using the least amount of pre-manufactured parts. As a result of the constraint, I approached each problem with an analytic perspective in order to find a solution. For example, when the weak motor couldn't handle the load of the car, instead of simply buying a stronger motor, I designed and applied a gearbox in order to achieve the required torque.
Manufacturing:
Fabricating the car components utilized numerous techniques and machines. The wheel axles were machined from a steel rod using a lathe while the wheels were 3D printed. The base and gearbox were laser-cut multiple times to iterated and adjust for the clearance of moving parts.
